Obviously, the best result we could possibly achieve is having the client walking again. This may be the outcome for some, but we do not indicate, infer, or suggest this will be the result of our efforts and it is our goal. The result of our comprehensive therapy is a person with a new outlook on life and a greater appreciation of themselves and their family and associates. Slipping into obscurity is easy to do and we train and encourage our clients to face the world as a participant and not as an observer. Already, we have recruited 2 clients to participate on the local wheelchair basketball team which gets them involved in the community and out of the house.
The old adage, “If you don’t use it, you loose it”, is so obviously relevant in our client’s situation. The stimulated exercise program helps to restore the circulation, maintain muscle tone, strengthens the respiratory system, and maintains the heart health. Exercises and stimulations of muscles keep them conditioned so they can react when control starts to come back. With the advances in stem cell and other therapies, it is
important to keep muscles toned because we don’t know what the future holds in therapeutic discoveries and we want the client to be prepared for breakthroughs.
